Echo Night

The night is black. Your voice is your lantern.

You are a bat with pups waiting in the roost. Each night you have five minutes before dawn to fill your belly and fly home. You cannot see a thing, but when you call, the world answers: trees, water, fences and fluttering insects light up in neon as your echo washes over them, then fade back into the dark.

Hunt by sound

Tap to call and light the world for a moment, then chase the echoes. Moths, beetles, fireflies, crane flies, caddisflies and more, each with its own flight and its own tricks.

Seven hunting grounds

A pecan orchard, a river valley, a city park, a mountain ridge, a desert wash, a cypress swamp and a castle on a spire of rock above a gorge. Forty-nine nights, each a little harder than the last.

The night hunts back

Owls come for your calls. Foxes and coyotes wait low. Hawks and falcons come with the grey light of dawn. Learn to go quiet, sprint, and open distance.

A field journal of the night

Fill the Catch Log, a shelf of specimen jars. Read a new field note about bats between every night. And as the season goes on, word from the farm grows strange.

The small print, up front

  • A hand-engraved look drawn in neon ink; a plain colour view if you prefer.
  • An original score for cello, violins and piano that quickens when you are hunted. Headphones recommended: sound tells you where everything is.
  • First or third person; simple one-thumb flying.
  • Plays offline. No accounts, no in-app purchases, no analytics, nothing collected.
  • Between flights it shows short videos for Cadent Family, our own family-calendar app, fetched from our own site. No third-party ads.
